Navigation Courses

Learn the skills to enable yourself to go into the mountains with more confidence in knowing where you are, where you're going, and where you've been! Whether you're new to using a map & compass and need an introduction to get you off the ground, or a refresher to get those faded skills back, we can accommodate your requirements and tailor the day or days to suit you.

The courses range from beginner through to advanced...with the terrain chosen to suit each accordingly. There will be a discussion and introduction to different map scales and types, as well as using the more popular OS 1:25k Explorer. Baffled by Harvey's? Wondering how on earth you use a 1:40k? (and why?) then one of our courses might be just what's needed to explore these questions and dispel any mystery or myth.

As well as the traditional map & compass, we'll also take a good look at digital navigation methods. Whilst the paper route is, and should, be the foundation for any safe navigation in the hills...we shouldn't discount the digital route, so we'll be looking at and discussing the pros and cons of each, looking at different phone apps, as well as more dedicated devices currently available.
